Gardasil: HPV Vaccine

HPV (human Papillomavirus) is a very common virus that can affect anyone who has had
any kind of s
exual activity. In fact, there are six million new cases of Gential HPV
diagnosed e
ach year in the United States. Many people do not show any signs or
symptoms of HPV, and consequently d
on’t know they have the disease. HPV, however,
can lead to genital warts, or abnormal changes in the cells of t
he cervix leading to pre-
cancers, and potentially later in life, cervical cancer.

Gardasil is recommended for girls aged 9-26 years old and consists of three doses (at
day 1, 2 months and 6 months.)  Gardasil
Is well tolerated, and the most frequent side
effect is redness, soreness and itching at the injection site.

After vaccination, it is recommended that sexually active patients continue to use safe-sex
methods, and follow up with their physician for routine pap smear exams.

Passport Health offers on-site immunizations at colleges and schools.
